Supporting Student Safety, Connection and Adaptive Behaviour

This practical two-day course is designed for school leaders, teachers and education support staff who work directly with students experiencing dysregulation in school environments. Grounded in the Attune & Apply student dysregulation support framework, the course equips participants with the knowledge and skills to safely support students in distress and guide them toward emotional regulation and prosocial behaviour.

Developed and refined through implementation in MacKillop’s specialist settings and ReLATE schools across Australia, the framework offers practical, relationship-based approaches for responding to dysregulated behaviour in real time while building students’ long-term coping capacity.

This course provides participants with practical strategies to enhance student safety, connection, and engagement, particularly during moments of distress. It emphasises the importance of co-regulation as a foundational practice for promoting prosocial behaviour and emotional wellbeing, and equips educators with tools to interpret and respond to maladaptive behaviours through developmentally appropriate and psychologically safe methods.

Participant Feedback

“It was fascinating to consider how my own behaviours and responses can impact on students and my colleagues. How I self-regulate is a huge part in co-regulation with students. This course had great examples of what you can do, with lots of tips and tools to use, as well as theory.”
