Trauma theory and the Sanctuary toolkit
The Sanctuary model is built on trauma theory, through which we understand how trauma alters brain functioning and presents in behaviour. Vicarious trauma and collective disturbances are common within many organisations. When understood well, we are better able to identify what we can do about the impact of trauma in order to create healthier environments.
The Sanctuary toolkit features a number of tools, including red flag meetings, the SELF Framework and psychoeducation to create a trauma informed culture, that includes shared values and language. Importantly, individuals, teams and organisations benefit from repeatedly practicing the behaviours that promote those values in their daily lives to build new patterns.
